Where do we hike?
There will be ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ hikes daily. In addition, information will be available for those people who would like to plan their own walk. A preliminary list of the hikes for 2023 will be posted on this page when it is available, probably sometime in August.
All hikes are subject to change at the discretion of the hike leader due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
The ‘A’ hikes will usually tackle a 4,000-footer. The ‘B’ hikes are somewhat easier, but enough to challenge you. The ‘C’ hikes, although easier, are more than pleasant strolls. They will keep you in the open air for the greater part of the day. We occasionally organize “D” hikes which are casual walks, shorter and over easier terrain, to visit points of interest. Information will be available for those people who wish to plan their own walks or outings. All hikes are led by volunteers who are AMC-qualified hike leaders.
Each day’s hikes are generally within a 15-60 minute drive of the hotel. The hike schedule is planned to provide a variety of locations and levels of difficulty. Due to the unpredictability of the weather, many hikes are modified or changed at the last minute. A bulletin board in a central meeting area will contain detailed descriptions of each day’s hikes and a sign-up sheet.
Hikes will typically depart from the hotel 30-60 minutes after breakfast. You will pack your trail lunch for the day from a table set up at the same time breakfast is being served. Carpooling will be arranged ahead of time. You will return in time for dinner.
Many of our hikers are interested in “peak bagging” all 48 of the 4,000-foot mountains in New Hampshire. For more information, visit the Official AMC 4K Club website.
